Joyful and welcoming Balinese people

One of the most striking aspects of Bali is its people. Balinese people are renowned for their hospitality and warmth towards visitors. The locals are generally friendly and welcoming.

They are kind and they smile often. They are generous and warm. They take time and care in all they do. They don’t rush. They work hard. They are very devoted and fully present rather than just doing it as a duty. They are inward focused.

For Balinese people expressing gratitude and offering is a regular daily ritual. They are committed to ritual, devotion and faith. They regard life as sacred, finding joy in moments filled with beauty and meaningful experiences.

Daily offerings, the canang sari, are an important piece of the daily ritual done during early morning and the meaning behind them is beautifully universal. Creating one of these floral offerings is an expression of gratitude and a heartfelt wish for peace and abundance in the wider world. Setting aside time and energy each and every day to honor this tradition is a self-sacrificing, self-loving and community building. It is a spirit of thankfulness and a supreme attention to detail that connects each individual to their faith, culture, country, and the world. These small moments of quiet and peaceful intention, done each day, show you how the Balinese are perceived as so joyful and welcoming.

I witnessed their beautiful flower offering ritual many times daily. It has taught me that everything can be done with intention and devotion. Small acts of devotion can have a profound impact on both our own lives and the lives of others. The smallest things, like cleaning a home or preparing a beautiful meal, when done with intention and devotion, truly amplify its significance.
